Sunny morning. The outing to the same places were I was in Sunday with the intent to shot the male Blue-capped Redstart. Redstart was in same place when I saw it two day ago. Probably this place will be comfortable to nesting; there are three high spruce-trees, thickets, river and stones. But unfortunately my attempts to close to Redstart were unsuccessful, bird didn't allow me to close less that 15 meters. On my oncoming Redstart flew in spruce tree, perched on attitude about 5-6 meters and sang his song. So I couldn't make good shots.

The most popular today's bird is Black-throated Accentor. It is most visible and hearable too. It is interesting that Black-throated Accentors sing only perched on branch of tree or bush but never on stone. Grey-headed Goldfinches formed pairs and run one to another, but some of them fly with fuzz in beak, possibly to nest building. Today I saw Blackbirds, so I was right when I proposed that I heard them songs. Blackbirds both male and female flew in one spruce tree, probably to them nest. Also I saw pair of Mistle Thrushes, Long-legged Buzzard, Nutcrackers, Wren under same bush roots, and flock of Chaffinches in the garden.

1. Blue-capped Redstart (Phoenicurus caeruleocephalus)

3. Black-throated Accentor (Prunella atrogularis huttoni)

4. Grey-headed Goldfinch (Carduelis caniceps paropanisi)

5. Northern Wren (Troglodytes troglodytes tianschanicus)

6. Northern Wren (Troglodytes troglodytes tianschanicus)

Dusky Thrush (Turdus eunomus)

2021-02-28
Uzunagach, Almaty oblast.

A rare vagrant species for Kazakhstan. On February 27 and 28, two birds kept in the thickets of silverberries near the village of Uzynagash (43 km west of Almaty). This is the sixth record of the Dusky Thrush for Kazakhstan. Records of this species are known for the Syrdarya, near the village of Dzhulek (October 16, 1927), near Almaty (February 16, 2013), as well as Ust-Kamenogorsk (October 14 and 16, 2016), Kurgaldzhino (May 7, 2020).

Pygmy Cormorant (Phalacrocorax pygmaeus)

Almaty, Aitykov str.

The first record of Pygmy Cormorant in Almaty in general and, in particular, during the winter. The expansion of the Pygmy Cormorant to the northeast concerns not only the probable nesting area, but also the wintering grounds. The nearest winter finds are Sorbulak and Taldykorgan (winter 2017-18, one bird each). In this connection, it is worth noting a significant number of birds in the Almaty (40) and Sorbulak (20) records this winter.

Sorbulak lake system. Almaty oblast.

First winter record for Sorbulak (-10 ° С). Before that, the latest sighting at Sorbulak was on November 24, 2006 (3 birds, Belyalov, Karpov, 2013). Twice the wintering of Pied Avocet were recorded on Shardara (7 birds on January 14, 2018 and 35 birds on January 11, 2020, B. M. Gubin, S. Baskakova, A. Isabekov).
