Sorbulak, Kurty.

2012-04-07 | Askar Isabekov

Chapaev. Black-headed Gull, pair of Tufted Ducks. Sorbulak. Birds were not a lot. On the water mostly Coots and Crested Grebes were visible, on the coast we saw Great Cormorants, Dalmatian Pelicans, Grey Herons, Jackdaws, Magpies. Also we watched the less visible Garganeys, Red-crested Pochards, Mallards, pair of Goosanders, pair of Goldeneyes, Tufted Ducks, one Black-winged Stilts, Gadwall, Shovelers, Common Teals. Caspian Gulls and Black-headed Gulls flew by, Turkestan Shrike, Black Kite, Common Starlings, a lot of Chiffchaffs which fed on the ground too. On second dam there were a lot of Ruddy Shelducks, two Northern Pintails, Pied Wheatears, Turkestan Shrikes.Kurty village. Many Black Kites both in village and in vicinity. In the steppe zone at Kurty there were a lot of Larks mostly Calandra Larks but Crested Larks and Greater Short-toed Larks were too; Isabelline Wheatears, Pied Wheatears; the Rooks probably concentrated in flocks to migrate to north, we saw the flock of about 4 thousand [...... read more ]

Almaty, Dendropark.

2012-04-04 | Askar Isabekov

At the entrance of park in the pine grove I saw the pair of feeding Greenfinches which I saw in same place last time, and also saw before the leaving the park (but not the pair but three birds). Probably Greenfinches are the resident birds in the park. Lots of Magpies which behaved quiet, without noise and shouting. One Magpie mutely chased the Eastern Buzzard in the sky. In addition to Buzzard there was the Kestrel, both raptors regularly were in my vision. The large flocks of Chaffinches and Buntings were not already, but single Chaffinches sometimes flew by me. Some time I were watching the Pied Wheatears, I saw in total three males and 3-4 females, males were observed all three at once, and females separately. All males had rufous tinge on feathers as in autumn plumage. Pied Wheatears perched on the trees, from which they flew off straight up to the insects, or flew down from the tree to catch insects in the grass. In the spruce and hawberry plantations I watched the dozens of feeding [...... read more ]

Almaty. Republic Square.

2012-04-03 | Askar Isabekov

Males of Stonechat (5-7) arrived to Square, also I saw three Chiffchaffs feeding on birch-tree, and one Black-throated Thrush. Today I saw again Bluethroat I saw yesterday but the bird was very cautious and immediately hid into the bushes and didn't come out. However another Bluethroat came up to me to the distance about three meters and postured quite a long time. Great Tits, Greenfinches and Blackbirds were very active. The Collared Dove perched on the oak, it was uncommon to see it so high on the tree, usually Collared Dove is watched on the ground. The Chaffinches were not yet migrated, also I watched three flying Rooks and one male Sparrowhawk. In Samal directly beside the road I saw singing Masked Wagtail, but Grey-headed Goldfinch were singing in the pine. [...... read more ]

Almaty. Republic Square.

2012-04-02 | Askar Isabekov

Isabelline Shrike arrived, the bird stayed the high branches of trees and flew off when I closed to it, sometimes Shrike tried to sing. A very short time I watched Bluethroat; the Black Redstart also was visible a short time. The new arrived birds were very cautious. On the city hall building I watched the resting in the shadow Peregrine Falcon who didn't pay attention to me. The flocks of Chaffinches flew here and there but I didn't see the Bramblings. Greenfinches stayed in the coniferous trees (pine-trees and thujas) and were singing very actively. Hooded Crows and Rooks departed from the Republic Square. Magpies are probably on the nests. 2021-02-28
Uzunagach, Almaty oblast.

A rare vagrant species for Kazakhstan. On February 27 and 28, two birds kept in the thickets of silverberries near the village of Uzynagash (43 km west of Almaty). This is the sixth record of the Dusky Thrush for Kazakhstan. Records of this species are known for the Syrdarya, near the village of Dzhulek (October 16, 1927), near Almaty (February 16, 2013), as well as Ust-Kamenogorsk (October 14 and 16, 2016), Kurgaldzhino (May 7, 2020).

Pygmy Cormorant (Phalacrocorax pygmaeus)

Almaty, Aitykov str.

The first record of Pygmy Cormorant in Almaty in general and, in particular, during the winter. The expansion of the Pygmy Cormorant to the northeast concerns not only the probable nesting area, but also the wintering grounds. The nearest winter finds are Sorbulak and Taldykorgan (winter 2017-18, one bird each). In this connection, it is worth noting a significant number of birds in the Almaty (40) and Sorbulak (20) records this winter.

Twice the wintering of Pied Avocet were recorded on Shardara (7 birds on January 14, 2018 and 35 birds on January 11, 2020, B. M. Gubin, S. Baskakova, A. Isabekov).
